Ryan W. Kelly is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Art at The Ohio State University, serving as a Professor of Ceramics and Interim Director of Foundation Studies. He returned to the Buckeye state after spending the last eight years under the shadow of the Liberty Bell and the Ben Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Ryan is an alumnus of the five year long Artist In Residence program at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia. He holds a BFA in Ceramics from the Kansas City Art Institute and an MFA in Ceramics from The Ohio State University. In 2012 Ryan was a Fleisher Wind Challenge Artist. In 2010 he was an Independence Foundation Fellow in the Arts. Ryan is also a past recipient of the Lormina Salter Fellowship at the Baltimore Clayworks. Ryan has taught both on the community level at a number of institutions and at the collegiate level at The Ohio State University, Swarthmore College, Rutgers University, The Maryland Institute College of Art, and Tyler School of Art. The wide variety of materials and communities in which he works has led to his involvement with several puppet theaters and theatrical prop construction for low budget films, including the Green Porno series by Isabella Rossellini. Ryan is a founding member and co-curator at Practice Gallery in Philadelphia.
